Düsseldorf: from the airport into town

Train, bus, taxi or transfer – which connection from Düsseldorf airport into the city centre suits you best.

Your options

  • S-Bahn S11: leaves right underneath the terminal and takes you to Düsseldorf main station without changing – the easiest way into town.
  • Stadtbahn U80: from the stop at Terminal C straight to the main station in about 18 minutes, every 20 minutes (every 30 in the evening and on Sundays).
  • Long-distance station with SkyTrain: regional trains, RRX, IC and ICE stop at Düsseldorf Flughafen station. The SkyTrain gets you there from the terminal in about 7 minutes – handy for Cologne, the Ruhr area and beyond.
  • Buses: in front of the arrivals hall, for example line 721 via the main station or SB51 towards Meerbusch and Kaarst.
  • Taxi: at the arrivals hall exit – the city centre is close, so the ride is short.

Tips

  • Deutschland-Ticket is valid on the S-Bahn, Stadtbahn, regional trains and the SkyTrain. For visitors, the DüsseldorfCard is worth a look.
  • SkyTrain without buying a ticket: with no ticket, tap your bank card or phone on the reader when getting on and off – the fare is calculated automatically.
  • At night: the SkyTrain runs from 3:45 am to 0:45 am. During maintenance, shuttle buses replace it – the airport website lists current closures.
  • To the trade fair: on fair days special buses and the U81 run – about five minutes from the airport to the Messe.
  • Our home airport: we usually fly from Düsseldorf ourselves – by train to the long-distance station is often quicker than driving plus parking. If you do drive: airport parking.
