Liquids

  • Basic rule: containers of up to 100 ml, together in one clear resealable bag of up to 1 litre – one bag per person.
  • Exceptions: baby food and medicines you need during the journey are allowed in larger quantities.
  • New scanners: some airports allow larger quantities with new screening equipment – only rely on this if your departure and transfer airports explicitly say so.

Power banks and batteries

  • Cabin only: power banks and spare batteries must not go in checked luggage.
  • Lufthansa Group since 15 January 2026: at most two power banks per person, neither used nor charged on board, not in the overhead locker – only in the seat pocket, on you or in the bag under the seat. Up to 100 Wh allowed, 100 to 160 Wh only with the airline's approval.
  • Other airlines: some have their own rules – check their website before you fly.

Tips

  • Essentials in the small bag: ID, medicines, charging cables. On full flights, larger cabin bags are sometimes checked in at the gate.
  • Flying back from the US: on departures from the US, TSA rules allow one cabin bag plus one personal item – regardless of class or status.
  • Measure your case: many “cabin trolleys” are too big for one of the airlines.
