We arrived in Paris and it felt as if someone had hidden a garden for us in the middle of the city.
Why this hotel
La Fantaisie sits on Rue Cadet, a lively little street in the 9th arrondissement. From the outside a classic Parisian townhouse, inside a celebration of colour, pattern and plants – designed by Martin Brudnizki's studio. 63 rooms and 10 suites, a large garden courtyard, a restaurant with a glass roof like an old greenhouse and the Bar sur le Toit with views across the rooftops.
For us it was exactly the right mix: quiet for sleeping, yet two steps from the door you're right in everyday Paris.
The location: the perfect 9th
The 9th is one of our favourite neighbourhoods for a Paris trip: hip, relaxed and less touristy than the area around the Eiffel Tower. Small cafés, bakeries, wine bars and boutiques – and in South Pigalle (“SoPi”) some of the coolest bars in town.
- Montmartre: walk up the hill to Sacré-Cœur
- Louvre: metro line 7 from Cadet straight to Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre, no change needed
- Opéra Garnier and Galeries Lafayette: a stroll along the Grands Boulevards

If you'd rather experience Paris like a local than in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, La Fantaisie is the place. The FHR benefits turn a lovely hotel into a really good weekend.
